About The Speaker:
Dr Teo Susnjak holds a PhD in Computer Science in which the central research topic was machine learning. He is a Senior Lecturer with the Computer Science and IT group at Massey University, where he developed and introduced the first Data Science specialisation at the undergraduate level out of all NZ and Australian universities. He also leads the Data Science specialisation and teaches its courses, as well as undertakes supervision of Masters and PhD students in this area of study.

Dr Teo has worked in the industry as a machine learning analyst and he continues to focus his research on applying machine learning to solve real-world challenges from a wide range of domains. Dr Teo is also a project leader for GDPLive.net, a recently launched real-time gross domestic product (GDP) tracker, which is believed to be the first of its kind in the world. Called GDPLive, the online portal uses machine learning algorithms and the most up-to-date data possible, including live data sources. It allows users to instantly see estimates of how the New Zealand economy is performing on a daily basis, and provides GDP forecasts.
